one of my zoa colonies stopped fully opening recently. now they either dont open or only open half way. also today i noticed what appears to look like a little bit of algea growing on them. this is the only colony that is affected. i tested my water and everything seems to be running just fine. should i put them in a spot wih a decent amount of flow to heal them up? any suggestions? help! these are one of my favorites.

big chance that you dont have enough light

how did u come to that conclusion ...

surfer if you can take a pic of the zoos and show us what ur talking about... also what type of lighting do u have on top of ur tank and how far down is ur zoos from the lights... also state ur water levels (it might help)...

how long were the zoos in that spot for...
have you changed anything in the tank such as flow and directed it more towards the zoos..
have you dosed anything differently then what u use to...
have you changed salt type...

it could also be the algae bothering the zoos or the zoos dieing and the algae taking over... take a pic...

They are probably being irritated by the algae growth. When irritated like that it's common for them to either not open at all or to only open partially.

See if you can gently pull the algae off of them and put them back in the same place in your tank and then leave them alone for a couple of days and they should open back up.

...and work on your algae issue in the meantime:wink1: (hey! I have one too!)

light is not an issue.. im pushing over 8 watts per gallon.. i run vhos. i have done nothing diff to my tank and like i said i have many colonies of zoos but these are the only ones that have algae on them and wont open. im going to try to wipe them off tom. and see what happens. these guys are sitting at the bottom of the tank about 15 inches from the light. give or take. i would say it is deff not a light issue. they are deff irritated though. i never really see anything bother them. i will try to take a picture tom. my cam is hard to capture any of my zoas  wish i new a trick
