not a good coral at all. the feeding alone will just pollute your tank and has one of the lowest survival rates. when it dies it will also pollute your tank. Dont even know why fish stores sell them.

Lighting: Low to Moderate -Florescent bulbs, Power Compacts, V.H.O bulbs are recommended.
Water Flow:
Moderate to High.
Placement:
Place this coral in a dim lighted area.
Reef Supplements:
Thrives with additions of Phytoplankton, Calcium, iodine and trace elements.
Ease of Keeping:
Moderate Difficult.
Special Needs:
Keep Calcium levels-(350ppm-450ppm) and Alkalinity levels-(2.5meq/l or dKH 7-8) This coral grows faster with frequent feedings of phytoplankton, and nauplii of brine shrimp.

in my 3 years or reefkeeping i have never seen any tank successfully raise a chilli

I have seen a tank with a few the owner kept for few years.. It was a dedicated dark reef with some pineapple fish and sun polyps. But I don't see a point of putting this type of coral in a mixed tank, you have to keep it under a rock overhang with very little light, and it will only firm up (otherwise limped) once the lights goes out, ugly coral IMO.

Mine has been in my tank for a little over one year. Bright red with white polyps. I have it under an overhang so that it gets zero direct light. I feed the tank normal amounts, nothing excessive. I do not direct feed it. I only feed frozen cyclopeeze, rotifers and daphnia.

Everyone that sees it comments on it. Most ask what that beautiful sponge type thingy is.

Not sure what the longevity of a coral needs to be in our system to be considered a success. However, over a year must be approaching that timeline.
