anyone know a site with pics of hitchhiker crabs? the one i found is in a batch of fiji, tonga, and marshall rock, so it's a pacific species. It is not a mithrax crab, is not hairy, but to me it doesnt look like a porcelain, though there probably are many species or porcelains. It is smooth, with two normal claws, and kind of a leopard print markings. I will try to get a pic if he comes out again. he's about an inch and a quarter across, including legs. thanks

Could still be a Mithrax as not all are hairy. Mithrax is a HUGE genus. A pic might help.

Meloco,

Try counting the legs. Porcelain crabs hide their last legs up their b*tt (there's an official latin name for that, but this is how I describe it :) ). If it's a porcelain crab, it's only got 3 pairs of legs behind the front claws. All other crabs will have 4 visible pairs behind the front claws.

sounds like one of my acro crabs. smooth, red body with a leopard print. about the size of a nickel.

interesting...i'll have to count when i see him again. He's somewhere in 70lbs of curing LR, so he's hard to find. I set out two traps last night, but nothing so far. I will try to get a better description or pic when I hopefully catch him. Thanks so far
