Picked up a piece of live rock from the LFS and discovered it had 4 clams on it!!

Question is how do I keep them a live! I am not feeding anything (unless you count hair algae to the snails and crabs that hitchhiked in).

Two clams are just to the left of center next to the red sponge:

The one clam I see looks like a turkey wing clam (Arca something-or-other-a). Check a Florida seashell guide for the shape. If it's a turkey wing, Fenner/Calfo's "Reef Invertebrates" book describes it as a nice hardy filter feeder.

Just let it consume debris in the water column. If you're feeling guilty, dose some phytoplankton once in a while. Be sure to skim well if you dose phytoplankton, as that stuff can stink pretty badly.

hdtran,

I had quite a few of those and never fed them. When my tank recently crashed I took a close look at the liverock and discovered that there were some small baby ones too so they seemed to do just fine filtering from the water on their own.

I have small white ones in my tank. I just leave them alone. Its seems they can move around on their own well because I have a few in my over flow box too

I just found one today while trying to re-aquascape. At first I thought it was just a piece of the rock, then I sort of nudged it and it fell off the rock, I soon realized it's some sort of clam.

I wonder if it will grow any, it's apparently feeding right now as it's got some white tube coming out of it and checking out a snail thats getting too close to it.

Dont know what type it is, looks like an ordinary run of the mill clam.

I think whats really neat is watching him try to move in the tank where he would rather be. He sticks out this white tubular looking thing and grabs hold of his surroundings (in this case, it's the live rock that I placed him on) and he slown pulls to move his shell. I wonder if I put him in too high of a current area and hes' trying to get away from it.

Heres the best shot I could get of it.
