what type of chiton is this?

I beleive it is a chiton anyway, although I could be wrong it wouldn't be the first time. The only book I have say that some chiton have been known to eat coral tissue. Most are herbivorous, but I'd hate to have this thing start munching on my corals. Anyone know anything about chitons?

sorry it's a little blurry, I zoomed in on it, and my camers is lacking severly. It's total length is about 2 1/2" and it is 1/4" to 1/2" wide.

It's going to be very hard to ID that chiton based on that photo, or any photo. You might ask Dr. Shimek over at www.reefcentral.com

There are no species, as far as I know, that are anything but harmless grazers. What book tells you that? In the meantime, you might find better info if you search under "polyplacophora" rather than "chiton"...
