I suppose without a pic this might be tough.. I am currently cycling my tank and I have noticed this bloodred fuzzy stuff on one of my rocks.. I figure it is algea just curious if good or bad.. and will the cycle kill it anyhow?
Does it look like pink fluff, like you'd see coming out of a doll's head?
It sounds like cyano, its very typical in newer and older tanks. Its not harmful on its own. Give us a better description and we'll see about helping you out more.... search for cyanobacteria on these boards.
well currently is is sort of blowing in the current and has the consistancy of cotton candy? sort of like when you pull a opiece off and the little strands are sticking up. I will try to get a digicam and get a pic... sort of thought it was cyno. and I can't remember seeing it initially.... I will also do a search.. While you are there.. should I be feeding this tank at all during the cycle? I seem to have several mullosks, I can see opening at different times...
I would not feed while its cycling. There is food enough in the decaying material and light entering the tank.
Its like a form of algae thats a nuisance, I would suggest pulling it when you find it. I have a bit in my tank, and it only seems to grow in the cracks where the fish cannot reach it.
ok...can do.. mine as far as I can tell is easy enough to get at.. right on top of a rock. near the top of the tank.. Thanks...
no feeding.. guess that is best.. I don't see much in there to eat it in the first place.. don't believe the little crabs will survive the cycle.. or at least 1 won't.. so guess now it is a LONG waiting game.. this rock was supposed to be cured... so hopefully the cycle will not be a very long one...
