HELP!!!

My hermits are disappearing (a snail or two has, too). What is eating them? Certainly none of my fish. I don't have fish that eat hermits -they're all community fish. I am finding long, thin strands of sand casings, perhaps an organism's waste? Could my disappearing hermits and the casing be related to the same organism? What is it? Will it harm my fish?

Have you heard any clicking sounds? Could be a mantis shrimp.
