Hey all... What is this cotton candy stuff on my rocks? Also, I've noticed my goby (Amblyeleotris randalli) has started digging shallow (1 cm deep) holes in my DSB. Is this a problem. BTW, he's only been in the tank for about 1 week.

Yummm... Cotton Candy!
Never seen that cotton candy stuff, but the gobie wont hurt n-e thing digging (unless a rock falls in its burrow and the rock had a prize acropora on it which was shatterd into a million pieces---hey, it could happen) Besides, I have a 5inch engineer gobie, and its not hurt a thing..

I dont know what that candy stuff is but I had some in mine.. tried to remove it, went on another rock and spread there.. when I got caught with 3 other spots other then my main spot I had enough... removed the main rock, and put white thick epoxy on the other spots... it has been 3 weeks now and it stopped spreading.. next week I will try to remove the epoxy on one spot to see if it will grow back or if it is dead... if it does not grow back after a week or two I will remove the other epoxy places.. if not.. well epoxy it is and it stays..
Be carefull with that candy stuff... it grows like hell..
My main rock has been in a seperate tank now for those 3 weeks, with no lights on except the one in the room and there is still some on it.. 3 hermit crabs are there also and what is on the rock it their only meal.. (I was sorry for them and gave them fish food last night, they jumped on it like crazy..) so I guess they dont really like the candy stuff... I haven't found what could eat that.. in my main tank I thought cerith and astrea snails were eating it.. but never fast enough to prevent it from growing.. so I am not still sure if they ate some or not.. I kept putting them on that rock over and over again... with not much luck...

I just wanted to follow up on this situation, for those who were curious.

I bought a bicolor blenny who picked at it and spread it all over the tank. It does spread pretty quickly, when given the right conditions.

I bought a bunch of snails, including some mexican turbo grazers. The turbos seemed to love it, and now I have none left!

Kinda looks like a type of foram to me. Check the FAQ for the white branchy type of forum and see if that matches what you have.
