I've been trying in vain to find out what the hell type of red macro this is. If you know, please clue me in.

IMPORTANTLY, I'd like to know what eats it, as it overtakes some of my polyps and coralline algae.

Here you see it between two yellow neptheas along the ridge. It's purplish and succulent.

and here it is in the middle of the picture:

I know you said you didnt think that the algae was coralline encrusted, but i can clearly see the green on the new shoots, look to the upper right of the picture. You can clearly see green. This might just be the picture. The middle picture looks like a circular design per leaflet, like how coraline grows. As for the algae itself, i think its a variation of some sort of calurpa ramorsa?

I just looked it up in the burgess marine atlas, there was no red algae resembling yours. My second guess, this time educated by the atlas, would have to be calurpa pelata variation microdiska. Although i have seen a algae with those markings, i am sure of it. The grape calurpa has the stripes, but the shape resembles pelata. Id say for my final guess, it was calurpa ramorsa variation macrodisk. Hope that helped

Yes, I've often wondered if that was caulerpa myself. The green is actually a patch of hair algae behind it. It's definitely not corraline encrusted, it's just flat out purple. Also, it doesn't seem to grow on a threader like caulerpa does. Regardless, I'm going to take some to the LFS and see what will devour it.

Thanks for the help,
Brian

Do you have a tang? Tangs like all kinds of different macroalgae. IPSF has a product called "Tang Heaven" that is some kind of red macroalgae. I've never seen it but am wondering if that may be what you have.
