Boogiechillin

Active Reefer
I have a small (1" across) red crab that hitchhiked in on some live rock. I believe it is a filter feeder - it has thin legs that it waves in the water in front of its face with what looks like wide filamentous webbing at the end. It's claws are pretty small and stubby. Do you think this is safe to keep in a reef tank? I'm a bit wary about crabs since my mithrax trashed a small devil's hand one night...

Advanced Reefer
i have one in my tank, it was sold to me as a strawberry crab. has been in for several months now, about 5/8" across. i hardly ever see him, although he is really great looking. his claws are starting to turm black on the ends. like emerald crabs, these guys can become trouble when they grow up. someone or something has been munching my xenia, and until i find the culprit all of my crabs and shrimps are suspects. if i were you i wouldn't worry about him for a while, but at some point you may need to catch him and place him in the sump or refugium (if your algae needs pruning). i am removing my emerald and strawberry crab, as well as my 3 peppermints in the near future. they are going into my sump, with some LR and a small light until they are needed.
