Odd creature.. Flat shelled snail?? (pics)

This guy was attached to a mussel that came in with my live rock.. recently he dropped off.. While attached to the mussel, he never seemed to move, only his protruding antennae gave him away as a separate being.. and then I noticed his outline.. he was very "form-fitting" to the shape of the mussel..
I dont know what the heck he is.. do you?

That looks like the actuall muscle to me, I think it may be dying but Im not sure.

hmm.. i dont think so..
This guy is maybe 1/6 the size of the mussel he came off of.. he is about 3/4" across..
And he moves like a snail, with antennae sticking out from under his shell and all..

I agree, I think it is an abalone of some sort. Had to go pull out my invertebrate zoology book for this one... It looks like is has eyes on the small secondary tentacles next to the large tentacles and also appears to have a large gill to the left of the foot, characteristic of an abalone. I would say from the pictures I am leaning 80% abalone, 19% limpet, 1% alien being from a marshall island nuclear test site. Hope this helps!!

I had the exact same thing in my tank attached to a turbo snail. The only answer I got was that it might be a certain type of snail (stomatella? forgot what they said, but here's the thread what is it?). It's not a limpet IMO since limpets generally have an opening on the top of their shells, and mine didn't, and seems like yours didn't either. Also, abalone seem to have a common feature of holes in their shell in a line, mind didn't have that, and neither did yours from what I saw.
